Industry Odisha Bureau, Jul 17: The joint venture (JV) of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) has reportedly floated Rs 28,000 crore worth Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) tender for the proposed 4×700 MW Mahi Banswara Nuclear Power Project in Rajasthan.
Media reports said that, “This tender is claimed to be the largest contract issued under India’s indigenous Pressurised Heavy Water Reactor (PHWR) programme, while it will be India’s first nuclear power plant in India not wholly owned by NPCIL even though the country’s entire 8.8 gigawatt (GW) operational nuclear power capacity has been owned by NPCIL.”
Media reports also said that, “The deadline for the bids is September 30, 2026, while the four indigenous Pressurized Heavy Water Reactor (PHWR) reactors, with 700 megawatt (MW) capacity each, have to be configured so that they could generate total 2,800 (MW) of nuclear power.”
Notably, “The Government of India has set ambitious goals to increase nuclear power capacity to 22.38 GW by 2031-32 and 100 GW by 2047.“
