Industry Odisha Bureau, Oct 23: A low pressure area over the east-central and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal may intensify into a cyclonic storm by October 26. This could potentially affect the north Andhra Pradesh and adjoining south Odisha coasts.
The system is expected to strengthen into a depression on October 24 and a deep depression on October 25 before potentially developing into a cyclonic storm over the west-central Bay of Bengal on October 26.
It is forecast to move west-northwestwards. Over the following two days, it will bring focus over the coastal regions of Andhra Pradesh and Southern Odisha. The movement and potential landfall location of the system, however, remain uncertain.
Weather models differ on the system’s possible strength. Numerical forecasting models, including ECMWF and NCEP GFS, indicate that it could intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm. On the other hand, artificial intelligence-based models, including Mithuna and the IMD’s FGN and FCN frameworks, suggest that it may remain within the cyclonic storm category.
The differing projections highlight uncertainty over the system’s maximum intensity. Its development and movement will require continued monitoring as it progresses across the Bay of Bengal.
Coastal residents in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh should follow official weather bulletins for updates on the system’s track, intensity and potential impact.
