Industry Odisha Bureau, Oct 15: BMW India has opened pre-orders for the M2 xDrive Turbo Edition. Notably, it is a limited-run performance coupe inspired by the iconic BMW 2002 Turbo launched in 1973. The special edition will be available through authorised BMW dealerships on a first come, first serve basis, with only a limited number of units allocated to the Indian market.
The couple combines retro inspired styling with performance focused features from BMW’s M division. It comes in an exclusive Alpine White finish, highlighted by hand painted BMW Motorsport stripes that pay tribute to the original 2002 Turbo.
Distinctive exterior elements include a black power dome, reversed ‘turbo’ lettering on the bonnet and a special turbo emblem beneath the M2 badge. The car also gets a carbon-fibre roof, tailgate and rear spoiler. Buyers can opt for 19-inch front and 20-inch rear M Performance forged wheels in Gold Bronze.
On the inside, the special edition features M Carbon bucket seats, an M Alcantara steering wheel and carbon-fibre trim. A dedicated turbo badge on the centre cupholder cover adds another exclusive detail.
Power comes from a 3.0-litre inline-six-cylinder engine producing 353kW, or 480hp. BMW claims the coupe can accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in 3.7 seconds, with its top speed electronically limited to 250kmph. The optional M Driver’s Package raises the maximum speed to 285kmph.
The edition draws inspiration from the BMW 2002 Turbo, introduced in 1973 during a period of global oil-market uncertainty. Its turbocharged engine produced 170bhp and enabled speeds exceeding 200kmph, making it an important model in the development of performance cars using turbocharging.
With its heritage-inspired design, carbon-fibre components and high-performance engine, the M2 xDrive Turbo Edition offers Indian buyers a more exclusive take on BMW’s compact performance coupe. Pre-orders are now open, but the company has not specified the number of units available.
