Industry Odisha Bureau, May 7: Amid the dense cloud of uncertainties hovering over the much-awaited tangible truce between the sworn enemies USA and Iran still at daggers drawn since the conflict erupted in the wee hours of February 28 this year, the ongoing fragile ceasefire sans any deadline reportedly pronounced by US President Donald Trump has now been abuzz with the so-called last resort of “one page-14-point MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) reportedly got mired in the labyrinth.
As media reports, the White House is optimistic of striking a deal with bête noire Iran and eagerly awaiting the arch rival’s response in the next 48 hours.
On the contrary, Trump has been into his as usual whims and fancies of reportedly threatening Iran of “intense bombing” if the Islamic Republic did not budge.
Trump through his official social media platform X handle has categorically written: “Assuming Iran agrees to give what has been agreed to, which is, perhaps, a big assumption, the already legendary Epic Fury will be at an end, and the highly effective Blockade will allow the Hormuz Strait to be OPEN TO ALL, including Iran. If they don’t agree, the bombing starts, and it will be, sadly, at a much higher level and intensity than it was before.”
However, Trump on May 5 reportedly announced that he was pausing the US military operation ‘Project Freedom’ to free the stranded commercial ships and let the vessels pass through the Iran-controlled Strait of Hormuz while maintaining that the ongoing US Naval blockade imposed on Iranian ports would not be lifted.
Notwithstanding that, the US officials are reportedly hopeful of “getting closer to an agreement with Iran on a one-page, 14-point memorandum of understanding (MoU) to end the war and set a framework for detailed negotiations on Tehran’s nuclear programme”, as per a report by American news website Axios.
Elucidating on the contents of the “One-Page-14-Point Memo” prepared by the Trump regime, the news report said that the significant ‘MoU’ would signal end of the ongoing conflict paving path to “30-day window for negotiations on a comprehensive deal, including reopening the Strait of Hormuz, curbing Iran’s nuclear activities, lifting US sanctions on Iran and releasing billions of frozen Iranian funds”.
The Axios news report also indicated that the futile talks between the high-level delegations of US and Iran (during the twice attempted ambitious Islamabad Talks) could resume afresh either in Pakistan’s capital city Islamabad or Geneva in Switzerland (well-known as a global hub for diplomacy, hosting many international organizations, including the United Nations and the Red Cross).
