Industry Odisha Bureau, May 31: The reported explosion caused by a meteor along with its enormous booms sparked off panic among one and all in the northeastern regions of the United States of America (USA) yesterday.
Reportedly confirmed by both the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the American Meteor Society (AMS), the “3-foot-wide meteor triggered massive sonic booms while entering the Earth’s atmosphere over the border of Massachusetts-New Hampshire, and its fireball stretched from Delaware to Montreal”.
Reports further said that the massive sonic booms caused by the meteor’s explosion “jolted buildings in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.”
Reporting and explaining about the happenings, NASA in its official social media handle X said, “The energy released at breakup of the meteor is estimated to be equivalent to about 300 tons of TNT, which accounts for the loud noise.”
AMS sources also reportedly said that they are probing into it to ascertain if the meteor hit the ground or landed in the ocean.
