Industry Odisha Bureau, Aug 26: In a groundbreaking move towards green energy transition, Tata Power Western Odisha Distribution Limited has installed solar rooftop PV panels. TPWODL is powering 114 of its office buildings through solar panels in the Western Odisha region.
The rooftop solar installations have generated 8,92,537 kWh of clean electricity while managing to reduce 732 metric tonnes of CO₂ emissions.
A strong policy framework is needed to turn Odisha into clean energy state. Several government initiatives like National Solar Mission (2010), Solar Parks Scheme, Green Energy Corridor Programme have heavily contributed towards the goal. PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana
Currently, India houses 118.79 GW of installed capacity with major contributors being Rajasthan, Gujarat, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra.
Building on this TPWODL plans to further strengthen its renewable energy footprint by adding 100kW of rooftop solar capacity. The company has introduced 1kW ULA Model, where eligible households can install rooftop solar system by paying only Rs 1,875.
The organisation provides a 5-year warranty on equipment along with 25-year performance warranty on solar panels.
