Industry Odisha Bureau, Aug 14 : The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers will undertake a proper scientific study on E20 fuel. The study will involve inputs from members and relevant technical experts to assess compatibility. SIAM emphasized that future industry submissions should rest upon thoroughly validated and representative evidence only.
The announcement follows a Reuters investigative report on the earlier SIAM communication regarding E20 fuel. That communication contained preliminary data collected by a limited number of original equipment manufacturers only. SIAM said the communication was intended solely for internal circulation among member organizations and discussion.
The association clarified that preliminary data had not been reviewed or authenticated by members. SIAM noted that the testing basis and sample size were insufficient to support definitive conclusions. The earlier communication was withdrawn upon recognizing it had been inadvertently transmitted to external parties.
SIAM denied that media reports correctly characterized the underlying reasons for the communication withdrawal. The letter sent to the Ministry was immediately withdrawn following thorough consultations with member organizations.
The central issue concerns E20 fuel compatibility with petrol vehicle systems and performance standards. An earlier SIAM communication had raised concerns regarding possible fuel contamination in petrol vehicles.
