Industry Odisha Bureau, Aug 29 : Odisha has taken a step toward diversifying its renewable energy portfolio, with clean-tech firm MACLEC showcasing its indigenously developed Surface Hydro Kinetic Turbine technology at a high-level review meeting held at Kharavel Bhavan here.
The meeting, chaired by Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Energy, Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, focused on deploying innovative renewable energy solutions to accelerate the state’s transition to green power.
Additional Chief Secretary of the Energy, Electronics and Information Technology Department, Vishal Kumar Dev, who is leading Odisha’s green energy transition, was also present at the occasion.
During the presentation, MACLEC outlined the operational advantages of deploying Surface Hydro Kinetic Turbines within Odisha’s existing energy infrastructure. Unlike conventional hydroelectric systems that rely on dams and large reservoirs, the technology generates continuous electricity directly from flowing canal water, making use of the state’s existing canal network without requiring additional land acquisition.
Officials at the meeting noted that the technology could offer a low-footprint, decentralized power generation option for the state, particularly in areas served by irrigation canals, and discussions are understood to have centred on potential pilot deployment sites across Odisha.
