Bhubaneswar, March 25: For promotion of Cuttack famous Dahibara Aloodum, the Odisha Government has requested the Centre to include the delicious food item under the One District One Cuisine Scheme.
The State MSME Department has submitted a formal proposal to the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), informed MSME Minister Gokulananda Mallik in the Assembly today.
“Dahibara Aloodum name has been suggested to DPIIT, Government of India as a cuisine for Cuttack district under the “One District One Cuisine Scheme”. This step will help to promote Dahibara Aloodum in national as well as international level,” the Minister said in a reply to a question of Cuttack-Barabati MLA Sofia Firdous.
So far, a total of 27 Odisha products including food items, handicrafts and handlooms have received GI tag from the DPIIT.The food items include– Kendrapara Rasabali (Sweet), Odisha Rasagolá, Similipal Kai Chutney and Dhenkanal Magji.
MSME Department schemes for supporting food processing industries & micro enterprises are available for interested entrepreneurs, he said.
Further it can be suggested that if any kind of application has been received from any association involved with the Dahibara, Aloodum, MSME Department will facilitate for GI registration as per the Geographical Indication of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999, Mallik said.
He further informed that application for GI registration can be submitted as per Section 11 (1) of “The Geographical Indication of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999” through any association of persons or producers or any organization or authority established by or under any law representing the interest of the producers of the concerned goods. MSME Department can not apply GI tag for any products directly but it can facilitate any individual or organization to apply GI for any product.
The process for registering a Geographical Indication (GI) in India involves several steps and requires specific documentation. The entire process typically takes about 12 to 18 months, depending on the complexity of the application and whether any opposition is filed.
