Industry Odisha Bureau, Oct 29: Karbonn is preparing to return to India’s smartphone market with a new range of devices aimed at young consumers, particularly Gen Z. The domestic brand said it would focus on content creation while continuing its broader goal of making technology accessible to more Indians.
Jaina Group MD & CEO Pradeep Jain said that smartphone prices in India have risen over the past few years. This has put devices beyond the reach of a significant section of consumers. The company aims to address this gap with products designed around the needs and preferences of younger users.
Notably, Karbonn was a familiar name in India’s mobile phone market nearly a decade ago. It also gained visibility through its Karbonn Kamaal Katch campaign during the early seasons of the Indian Premiere League.
The company’s comeback follows reports of new devices appearing online. In August, a smartphone listed as the Karbonn Zen Z Pro appeared on the Geekbench benchmarking platform. The device reportedly featured a MediaTek Helio G70 chipset and Android 16, recording scores of 422 in single-core and 1,525 in multi-core tests on Geekbench 7.
Karbonn has also teased a smartphone called the Rebel 5G on Amazon, although its specifications and launch details remain undisclosed.
Meanwhile, the company is yet to announce the launch dates, prices or complete specifications of its upcoming devices.
