Industry Odisha Bureau, Aug 20: Marking a new phase in energy transition, India’s installed non-fossil electricity/power capacity has reportedly been 300.50 gigawatt (GW) as of July this year.
Media reports, citing a recent statement issued by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), have stated that, “India has 300.50 GW of installed non-fossil electricity capacity, comprising 164.59 GW of solar, 58.14 GW of wind, 57.24 GW of large and small hydropower, 11.75 GW of bio-power and 8.78 GW of nuclear power as of July 31, 2026.”
Media reports, citing a recent statement issued by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), have added that, “India’s total installed power generation capacity stood at around 552GW as of July end, putting non-fossil sources at about 54% of the capacity mix.”

India had reached 50% of cumulative installed electricity capacity from non-fossil sources in June 2025, five years ahead of the timeline envisaged under its Nationally Determined Contribution to the Paris Agreement.”
