Industry Odisha Bureau, Aug 14: Since the Government of India (GoI) is reportedly undertaking all-out efforts to harness more and more renewable energy, experts have advocated for the rapid expansion of its transmission infrastructure along with largescale storage facility so that the country-wide consumers could be ensured with a stable and reliable electricity/power supply whenever needed.
Experts have reportedly stressed that, “Instead of measuring the renewable energy’s gigawatts (GW) harnessed, the more important measure must be ensuring its delivery to the customers/consumers when actually needed.”
Experts have also reportedly stressed that, “The country needs greater transparency regarding delays in the addition of transmission capacity and the expansion of ‘behind-the-meter’ battery storage systems installed at the consumers’ premises.”
Reportedly, experts have further expressed that, “The distribution companies (discoms) are increasingly offloading surplus green power on exchanges at prices well below procurement costs, typically more than Rs 2 per unit for renewable power and over Rs 3 per unit for firm and dispatchable renewable energy (FDRE) and hybrid projects.”
It has reportedly been claimed that, “India’s installed renewable energy capacity currently stands at 288.59GW, out of which 162.15GW is solar. The solar power is expected to account for around 300GW out of the targeted 500GW of non-fossil capacity by 2030.”
