Industry Odisha Bureau, Jun 23: Since the Government of India (GoI) has reportedly intensified its efforts to diversify imports following the disruptions of supply chain due to the West Asia conflict, USA has reportedly been the top supplier of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG/cooking gas) to India.
As per media reports, “US has exported to India nearly 1.95 million tonnes of LPG since March as India imported 384,911 tonnes of LPG in April and about 629,500 tonnes in May from the US.”
Media reports also claimed that, “Next to the USA, United Arab Emirates (UAE) supplied 613,041 tonnes and Saudi Arabia supplied tonnes of LPG to India.”
As of June 19, the US has reportedly supplied “over 497,000 tonnes of LPG”, while the UAE has reportedly supplied “nearly 90,000 tonnes”.
Reportedly, “India spends nearly $11 billion to meet about 65% out of its 33 million tonnes of annual LPG demand through imports, while 90% of India’s LPG imports was sourced from West Asia prior to the conflict that broke out since February 28.”
