Industry Odisha Bureau, Jul 26: In a bid to help the country to produce its own prototype chips, India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) CEO Amitesh Sinha has reportedly announced that the Government of India (GoI) would offer 09 per cent (9%) incentives to homegrown start-ups to accelerate chip designs so that India could have its own chip patent over the next five fiscal years.
The ISM CEO has reportedly stated that, “The 09 per cent (9%) deployment-linked incentive will be offered by GoI under the Semicon 2.0 to the start-ups concerned in order to aid them for absorbing the cost impact when they are cash-strapped.”
Reportedly informing that, “homegrown start-ups have already made 12nm and 28nm trial chips from the world’s largest chip fabrication (fab) company Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC)”, the ISM CEO has also reportedly informed that, “India is going to have its Tata Dholera fab operational by 2028 so that Indian start-ups could speed up making chips.”
Reportedly, the ISM CEO further informed that, “India’s ace research body named Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) not only has chip-design expertise, but also plays a pivotal role by serving as the nodal agency for validating applications from India’s chip design startups.”
