Industry Odisha Bureau, Jul 13: In a bid to enable faster actions against spams and scams, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is reportedly holding talks with the US-based tech giants Meta and Google for sharing complaints regarding spam and scam communications with the telecommunication companies (Telcos) in India so that faster actions could be initiated against the spammers and scammers.
As per media reports, “Meta and Google have been asked by the TRAI to develop a mechanism (common anti-spam/scam database) so that they could integrate the complaints of users regarding spams and scams, and share with the distributed ledger technology (DLT) platform along with the TRAI’s Do-Not-Disturb (DND) portal.”
Notably, “The Telcos use the DLT platform to register telemarketers and monitor commercial communications, while TRAI’s Do-Not-Disturb (DND) portal allows aggrieved users to lodge complaints against the unwanted commercial phone calls and messages.”
Media reports quoting experts added that, “By integrating the reports/complaints from Telcos, WhatsApp and Google against spams and scams, TRAI could easily identify the habitual offenders (spammers & scammers) and initiate faster actions against them.”
