Industry Odisha Bureau, Jun 14: A report by Europe’s “Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA)” reportedly claimed that India remained the world’s second largest purchaser of crude oil from Russia in May, while China remained number one.
As per media reports, “India imported 83% of crude oil from Russia valued at 4.8 billion euros, while oil products and coal imports stood at 550 million euros and 429 million euros during the month of May.”
Media reports also said, “India’s large refinery hubs recorded notable increases in Russian crude oil arrivals in May in comparison to April. Even, Odisha-based Paradip oil refinery unloaded its highest volume of Russian crude oil in two years.”
The CREA data reportedly claimed that, “China bought 50% of Russia’s crude exports in May, followed by India (36%), Türkiye (6%), and the EU (5%).”
The CREA data also claimed that, “10 shipments of oil products from refineries using Russian crude were unloaded at EU ports in the month of May despite the EU’s ban imposed on imports of Russian crude oil since January 21, 2026.”
