Industry Odisha Bureau, Jun 8: Since world’s largest multinational technology company Apple Inc.’s “Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2026” begins tonight with CEO Tim Cook’s keynote address, the event is seen as a crucial AI moment, because it is expected to effect a major overhaul to ‘Siri’ and Apple’s AI capabilities as well as introducing iOS 27, iPadOS 27, watchOS 27, macOS updates.
As per media reports, “Apple’s Siri has been struggling to keep pace with its AI arch rivals OpenAI, Anthropic and Google Gemini, even though Apple introduced Siri in 2011 and has an installed base of around 2.5 billion devices.”
Notably, “Siri stands for ‘Speech Interpretation and Recognition Interface’ and is also a Scandinavian name meaning ‘beautiful victory’. Siri is an intelligent personal assistant developed by Apple that allows users to interact with their devices using natural language voice commands. Siri’s core function is to interpret spoken commands and provide audible responses on iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS and other Apple platforms. It helps users perform tasks such as setting reminders, sending messages, searching the web, and controlling device settings.”
According to technology experts, “Apple has an advantage owing to its vast amount of personal data already stored securely on users’ devices in shapes of emails, messages, calenders, photos and app data. If Siri can securely access and understand the data with users’ permission, it could become a far more capable personal assistant rather than simply a voice command tool.”
Pertinent to note here that, “Apple religiously maintains a robust privacy architecture for which most of the stored data of the users have deliberately been walled off even from Apple itself.”
