Industry Odisha Bureau, May 31: The victory celebrations by the frenzied fans of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) soccer team soon after PSG’s victory over Arsenal team reportedly triggered violent clashes on the streets of France’s capital city yesterday that resulted in police officials sustaining injuries as well as property damaged, and over 400 people arrested on the day.
As per media reports, “victorious PSG’s thousands of fans stormed the streets of Paris, set off flares and clashed with the police deployed there.”
Media reports added, “The absolutely unacceptable unrest wounded several police officers as projectiles were thrown on them, several vehicles and business establishments suffered damages. While normal traffic along the Paris ring road came to a standstill, a bus shelter near the Champs-Elysees was damaged. Police informed that a bakery and a restaurant were also ransacked near PSG’s Parc des Princes stadium.”
Media reports further said, “Similar violent scenes had also unfolded last year following PSG’s victory celebrations for which adequate police forces were deployed this year across France as preventive measures, but to no avail. Even the tram lines and bus operations in Paris city were halted, while several metro stations were shut as precautionary measures by the police and city administrations.”
Despite that, the uncalled-for and unwarranted happenings sparked off yet again this year to the utter chagrin of the Paris authorities as well as raised the hackles of peace-loving people across France.
On the other hand, the victorious PSG players and team officials are reportedly expected to take part in a victory parade today (May 31) afternoon at the Champs-de-Mars near the iconic and world-renowned Eiffel Tower. Around 100,000 people are expected to throng the venue.
Reports further said that, the triumphant PSG team will also be felicitated by French President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee Palace later in the day.
