Industry Odisha Bureau, May 4: All are agog to watch if both Venu Srinivasan and Vijay Singh could continue to be the incumbent vice-chairmen at the Tata Education and Development Trust (TEDT) or not. Voting of which is likely to be held this week.
While Venu Srinivasan is reportedly TVS chairman emeritus, Vijay Singh is reportedly a retired defence secretary.
TEDT is said to be the “wealthiest affiliate” of India’s coveted Tata Trusts with a reportedly whopping “corpus of around Rs 6,000 crore”, and also “owns the majority of Tata Sons”.
Observers keeping a hawk-eye on the significant development opine that Srinivasan and Singh “would lose their vice-chairmen titles if the imminent mandate goes against their favour even though they could continue as the trustees”.
Reportedly, the TEDT comprises of trustees Tata Trusts chair Noel Tata, Venu Srinivasan, Vijay Singh, Jehangir Nariman Mistry and Mehli Mistry.
Since all TEDT reappointments require a “unanimous approval”, sources informed that Mehli Mistry’s crucial vote could call the shot as he had allegedly challenged the reappointments of both Srinivasan and Singh.
Speaking to media last month, Srinivasan and Singh (reportedly both trustees) of Sir Dorabji Tata Trust (SDTT) and Sir Ratan Tata Trust (SRTT) have reportedly “endorsed Tata Sons going public” and also “supported a third term for Natarajan Chandrasekaran as Tata Sons chairman”.
On the contrary, Tata Trusts in July last year (2025) have “unanimously resolved that Tata Sons should remain private”.
Even though the Tata Sons Board had also “unanimously decided to grant a third term for Natarajan Chandrasekaran as Tata Sons chairman”, the decision got reportedly deferred on February 24 this year “owing to objections from Tata Trusts chairman Noel Tata”.
Since the crucial meeting of Tata Trusts is expected to be on upcoming May 8, it is now eagerly awaited to watch the outcome then if fortune favours Srinivasan and Singh or not.
