Bhubaneswar, March 19: Since the time-tested maxim-“Necessity is the mother of invention”-has transformed the erstwhile savage Homo sapiens to civilized human beings, and the term ‘impossible’ is claimed to be “not found in a wise man’s lexicon”, it is high time India should religiously accept the colossal challenge of bolt from the blue unleashed by the panging Hormuz state of affairs in a bid to be quintessentially energy self-reliant.
Needless to reiterate that, the sacred soil of India or Bharatvarsh, has been a blessed treasure and repository of knowledge and wisdom since ages. Instances galore to evince this averment. Also, our land is replete with natural resources to tap and harness into the national utilities.
The shock being faced due to the Hormuz hurting is indeed acute as India reportedly “imports around 85-90% of its crude oil needs” and ironically our country bank on the Persian Gulf-based Hormuz routes deemed to be “world’s pivotal energy corridors”.
Reports reveal that the crucial Strait of Hormuz “handles about one-quarter of the world’s seaborne crude oil trade and around one-fifth of global liquefied natural gas (LNG)”.
Under such a shocking scenario, beneficiaries are reportedly bearing the brunt of shortage in liquefied petroleum gas (LPG/cooking gas) since India is reportedly dependent on imports from the Gulf producers. Thus, the grim situation is reportedly inching fast from being chaotic to be catastrophic in near future if not tackled tactfully.
Experts opine that India’s top policy makers should henceforth brace up to be “energy resilience/secured” by procuring the fossil fuel requirements from other avenues like Russia, Latin America, African hubs as well as boosting up domestic explorations wherever feasible. Simultaneously, relying more and more on renewable energy resources would better augur well and good wherever it is fit and fine for being a suitable substitute.
It has also been opined that India should now meticulously measure the shortfalls and sufficiently save the future energy needs by building bulk storage system so that such visionary initiatives could meet the exigencies and boldly beat the heat of energy crisis in the long run.
Indian households, eatery joints, restaurants should be encouraged to switch over to electric cooking devices fed by roof-top solar panels akin to the mega kitchen service at the world-renowned Shirdi Sai Baba Prasadalaya that “entirely functions through the solar energy spread across four rooftops and powered by 73 large discs of solar panels making it the largest solar-powered kitchen in India”.
Thus, the currently implemented PM Surya Ghar Scheme of the Government of India must be accelerated and the prime policy should also cater to the needs of each and every common household irrespective of per capita income in shape of more soothing subsidies.
Experts also opine that India should now transform into a total EV transportation system with EV-charging points dotting the roadsides and highways at par with the re-fuelling pump-stations we access today.
The intelligentsia and elite mass propound that the Indian dispensation at the helms of affairs ought to fervourly feel the right pulse and gauge the mood of timely transformation going by the wise sayings: “Where there is a will, there’s a way” and “A stitch in time saves nine”.
