Bhubaneswar, March 18: Since Iran’s geographical grip over the Strait of Hormuz has now become a bone of contention as well as has made around 20-25 per cent of the global oil traffic and other merchandise reportedly go kaput, scores of experts view that it is high time it shouldn’t be a part and parcel of ‘war zone’, rather be solved separately as a tangible ‘trade zone’.
Experts opine that the issue of Hormuz need to be kept apart from the ongoing conflict between Iran on one side, and US-Israel on the other side. Then only, it would augur well and good for the “global economy to stay afloat”.
Thus, a million dollar question quizzes the intelligentsia and analysts: Why should other countries bear the brunt for the myopic tug of war between the belligerent troika: US, Israel and Iran?
The recent developments have made it crystal clear that even the European allies of the USA as well as India and China have reportedly dragged their feet from Trump’s clarion call or SOS for “warship coalitions” in a bid to “escort oil tankers and other freight carriers” out the “Iran-besieged” Strait of Hormuz.
The International Maritime Organization has reportedly stated: “Naval escorts alone cannot guarantee the safety of vessels passing through, particularly without Iranian cooperation”.
Hence, it is now a foregone conclusion that neither the navies nor the armed forces of any country can be able to take the sole control of the Strait of Hormuz away from Iran.
It has been observed that no military campaign can wrest absolutely the “strategic chokepoint” of Strait of Hormuz from the gargantuan grip of Iran as this age-old civilization has naturally been blessed with an advantageous geographical bounty.
Pertinent to note that, Iran “borders the narrow Strait of Hormuz”, which is a waterway between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. It “provides the only sea passage from the Persian Gulf to the open ocean and is one of the world’s most strategically important choke points”.
Those who evince grave concerns over such debilitating global trade and economic developments have now started batting for a permanent solution that could resolve the root cause of the nagging problem instead of raining barrages of missiles and drones for the sake of satisfying self ego and false vanity and above all hegemony.
