Industry Odisha Bureau, Oct 09: The Odisha government has increased minimum daily wages by Rs 6 for unskilled, semi skilled, skilled and highly skilled workers. Notably, the revised rates are effective from October 1, 2026.
An official notification by the Labour Commissioner’s office on October 8 confirmed the same. The revision was confirmed through an additional Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA). It is linked to changes in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for industrial workers.
The revisions for different category of workers look as follows:
- Unskilled workers: Rs 478 per day from Rs 472
- Semi skilled workers: Rs 528 per day from Rs 522
- Skilled workers: Rs 578 per day from Rs 572
- Highly skilled workers: Rs 628 from Rs 620
As per the notification, the revision follows a 2.30-point increase in the Consumer Price Index for industrial workers over the past six months, from 147.50 to 149.80.
The state government revises the Variable Dearness Allowance twice a year, on April 1 and October 1. This is based on changes in the index. The adjustment is intended to account for changes in living costs and applies to all four categories covered under the state’s minimum wage notification.
