Industry Odisha Bureau, Sep 29: Odisha is hosting its first all-women national golf championship. The All India Ladies Open Golf Tournament began at the Bhubaneswar Golf Club. The FICCI FLO Bhubaneswar Chapter has organised the event. It marks a milestone for golf and women’s sports in the state.
Works, Law and Excise Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan inaugurated the tournament as chief guest. He performed the ceremonial opening tee-off.
Harichandan said hosting such an event is a major leap for Odisha. He said it would boost sports tourism and women’s empowerment in the state. He also wished all participating golfers success on the greens.
The multi-day event features 66 women golfers from 23 cities across India. Their participation promises high-level competition at Odisha’s premier golf venue.
Dr Pradipta Kumar Mohanty, President, Bhubaneswar Golf Club and Team Golf, welcomed the gathering. He outlined the club’s ongoing initiatives and infrastructure development. He also reaffirmed the club’s commitment to promoting golf across Odisha.
FICCI FLO Bhubaneswar Chapter Chairperson Biyat Prajna Tripathy attended the ceremony. Organisers, dignitaries and sports enthusiasts were also present.
The tournament celebrates athletic excellence and sporting spirit. It also aims to draw more women into professional and recreational sports.
