Industry Odisha Bureau, Sept 16: India all-rounder Shreyanka Patil has recovered from her ankle injury and is set to return to competitive cricket at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan. This was confirmed in an update from her coach Arjun Dev.
Speaking to a news portal, Dev confirmed that Patil is expected to join India’s Asian Games squad. Notably, her selection had been subject to fitness clearance. This came after she suffered an ankle injury during the Women’s T20 World Cup in June.
Patil injured her right ankle while fielding against the Netherlands at Headingley on June 17. She was unable to continue and was later ruled out of the tournament, with Prerna Rawat named as her replacement.
The injury also kept Patil out of the Women’s Asia Cup. This came after the 24-year old had already spent a lengthy period on the sidelines because of earlier injuries, before returning to international cricket in February 2026 after a 16-month absence.
Patil’s return could strengthen India’s Asian Games campaign, with the all rounder offering both off spin and lower order batting options. She has played three ODIs and 24 T20Is for India, taking 34 wickets.
India are the defending women’s cricket champions at the Asian Games after winning gold at Hangzhou in 2023. The women’s tournament in Japan will again be played in the T20 format.
