Bhubaneswar,September 14: Maruti Suzuki’s combined Japan exports of three India-made models crossed 1 lakh units. These are the Jimny 5-door, FRONX and e VITARA. Japan remains its second-largest export market, underlining India’s growing manufacturing role.
Maruti Suzuki’s combined exports of three Made-in-India models to Japan have crossed 1 lakh units. The models are the Jimny 5-door, FRONX and e VITARA. Japan was Maruti Suzuki’s second-largest export market in FY2026. It retained that ranking during April-August 2026. The milestone matters because Japan has a mature domestic auto industry.
Maruti Suzuki Japan exports cross 1 lakh
The 1 lakh figure covers combined shipments of all three models. It does not represent individual model-wise export volumes. All three vehicles are manufactured in India. Japan is also a major global vehicle exporter in its own right.
FRONX, Jimny and e VITARA build export presence
Maruti Suzuki began exporting FRONX to Japan in August 2024. Exports of the five-door Jimny followed in December 2024. The e VITARA joined the line-up in September 2025. It is Maruti Suzuki’s first battery electric vehicle. The e VITARA extended India’s export role beyond conventional cars.
India expands role in Suzuki manufacturing
Both the five-door Jimny and e VITARA are made exclusively in India. FRONX is not exclusively manufactured in India. This exclusivity strengthens India’s position as a key manufacturing base. Indian plants are now supplying vehicles into Suzuki’s home market. Hisashi Takeuchi, Maruti Suzuki India’s Managing Director and CEO, called the milestone significant. He called it “a powerful endorsement of India’s manufacturing excellence.”
Automobile exports reshape India-Japan trade
A Rubix Data Sciences report examined India-Japan trade in June. It found automobiles were the biggest driver of export growth. Their share of India’s exports to Japan rose sharply. It climbed from 1% in FY21 to 13% in FY26. Maruti Suzuki is not the sole contributor to this shift.
Maruti Suzuki global exports reach record
Exports remain important for Maruti Suzuki’s overall sales. The company shipped 3.95 lakh vehicles globally during 2025. That marked 21% year-on-year growth. It was Maruti Suzuki’s highest calendar-year export volume. This global figure is separate from the Japan-specific milestone.
The Japan milestone reflects India’s expanding role in Suzuki’s network. Indian factories are increasingly supplying strategically important overseas markets. Japan’s ranking adds further weight to that shift.
