Industry Odisha Bureau, Aug 14: The 8th Pay Commission has revised its rules for hiring consultants on a contractual basis. This has opened more opportunities and positions available to younger professionals.
In an office memorandum dated August 11, the commission partially modified the consultant recruitment guidelines issued in April. The changes cover experience requirements, age limits, and the number of positions.
Young professionals
Notably, the biggest change comes for the Young Professionals category. Earlier, applicants needed at least four years of relevant experience. The revised rules have reduced this requirement to two years.
The commission has also increased the maximum number of Young Professional positions from 10 to 16. Meanwhile, applicants must be 32 years old or below, with age and experience calculated as of August 1, 2026.
Consultants
The revised framework includes 23 positions across three categories.
- Senior Consultants: 2 positions; at least 10 years of experience; upper age limit of 45 years.
- Consultants: 5 positions; at least 6 years of experience; upper age limit of 40 years.
- Young Professionals: 16 positions; at least 2 years of experience; upper age limit of 32 years.
The commission is looking for candidates from fields including HR, industrial relations, law, technology, and data analysis. Qualifications such as Masters’ degrees, MBAs, B.Tech and M.Tech may be considered, depending on the role.
Research skills, information compilation, note drafting, Excel or spreadsheet knowledge and presentation skills are also required. Professionals with experience in pay structures, compensation, emoluments or establishment matters will get preference.
Those who have applied under the earlier guidelines do not need to apply again. Applications must be submitted through the prescribed online process.
