Bhubaneswar, March 25: Odisha Police have registered 2994 rape and 1304 murder cases during the year 2025, as per the White Paper tabled by the Home Department in State Assembly on Wednesday.
In 2025, the Police have registered a total 2,29,881 cases of cognizable offences, which includes 1304 murder, 353 dacoity, 1802 robbery, 6282 burglary, 21,192 theft, 6,053 swindling, 1095 rioting, 2994 rape, 12,782 motor vehicle accident and 1,76,024 other miscellaneous cases, it said.
The report said a total of 1,98,513 cases were registered under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)
During investigation, the Police found 2,22,308 cognizable cases are true, of which, chargesheets have been filed in 1,55,223 cases.
Out of 1,304 murder cases registered in the last year, 1218 cases found to be true and chargesheet filed against 601 cases while 612 cases are under investigation.
Similarly, 2,929 of 2,994 registered rape cases were found to be true during investigation and the police have submitted chargesheets in 1930 cases, the report said.
Notably, a total of 2,14,113 cognizable cases including 1,258 murder, 356 dacoity, 2,582 robbery, 6,408 burglary, 17,805 theft, 6,307 swindling, 1,471 rioting, 3,054 rape, 12,375 motor vehicle accident and 1,62,497 other miscellaneous cases were reported during 2024.
The White Paper further said that significant improvement was noticed in overall Left Wing Extremism (LWE) situation during 2025. Minor Maoist activities were noticed in nine police districts—Kandhamal, Boudh, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Nuapada, Bolangir, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur and Rourkela.
In the police action, eight CPI (Maoists) were neutralised while nine Maoists & militias were arrested and 29 Maoists & their sympathizers surrendered before the police.
During the anti-Maoist operations, the Police have seized 46 guns, 60 sophisticated explosives and other materials.
