Industry Odisha Bureau, Sep 06: VinFast has started recruiting dealers across India. The move signals its electric two-wheeler entry nears. Applications remain open until September 15 this year. Local scooter assembly is also being prepared simultaneously. This comes as India’s E2W market keeps expanding.
VinFast invited applications for exclusive E-Motorcycle dealership opportunities recently. The company seeks partners to expand its national presence. Interested dealers can apply through the stated September deadline. No dealership numbers or locations have been confirmed yet.
India’s electric two-wheeler market continues gaining broader momentum currently. Growing consumer acceptance supports this expanding market segment. Wider charging infrastructure and product variety also help. According to one dealer, E2Ws hold roughly 9 per cent share. This remains small compared to conventional two-wheelers overall.
VinFast is reportedly pursuing the CKD assembly route locally. Components would arrive from the company’s overseas manufacturing facilities. Assembly would then occur at its Thoothukudi plant. This Tamil Nadu facility already handles VinFast’s existing car production.
Dealers see this expansion as strategically important for VinFast. Villupuram-based dealer S Sathyanarayanan called the E2W segment early-stage. He noted considerable growth potential within this market segment. Sathyanarayanan plans to apply for a VinFast dealership himself.
FADA Treasurer Bharat Kumar Chordia highlighted India’s diverse regional dynamics. Different states observe different festivals and auspicious buying periods. Dealerships help companies stay close to varied local buyers. This logic applies strongly to VinFast’s expansion strategy.
In December 2025, VinFast signed an MOU with Tamil Nadu. The agreement allocated around 200 hectares near Thoothukudi. This land sits within the SIPCOT Industrial Park zone. It supports development of VinFast’s existing manufacturing facility.
As part of its $2 billion India commitment, VinFast announced further investment. The company will invest $500 million in Thoothukudi specifically. This funds new workshops and dedicated production lines. These facilities will support electric buses and e-scooters. Manufacturing, assembly, and testing operations are all included.
VinFast’s E2W push follows a Reuters report on car production. The report suggested changes to some Indian car variant plans. VinFast clarified its current production plans remain unchanged. It confirmed continuing CKD assembly at Thoothukudi for existing models.
Together, dealer recruitment and local assembly signal deeper commitment. VinFast appears to be building lasting India manufacturing infrastructure. The coming weeks may reveal further details on this strategy.
