Industry Odisha Bureau, April 12: Indian grapplers Sujeet and Abhimanyou reportedly clinched a gold medal each when they registered victories in the respective men’s freestyle finals at the Senior Asian Wrestling Championships held in Bishek (capital city of Kyrgyztan) yesterday (April 11) surging India’s medal tally to 14.
As per media reports, 23-year-old Sujeet dictated the terms at the Men’s 65 Kg Freestyle final by registering a remarkable “win of 8-1 against his contender Umidjon Jalolov of Uzbekistan”.
Pertinent to note that, Sujeet has carved a niche being “the first Indian wrestler since Bajrang Punia’s 2019 Asian Championships gold medal victory in this same weight category”.
Soon after Sujeet made a mark on the day, yet another Indian grappler Abhimanyou followed the suit by trouncing his “Mongolian contender Tulga Tumur Ochir by 5-3 in the Men’s 70 Kg Freestyle final” the same day akin to a double bonanza for India.
Unfortunately, wrestler Sandeep Mann reportedly missed the bus of clinching the third gold medal for India on the same day in the Men’s 79 Kg Freestyle final when he “went down 1-2 in a closely contested penultimate bout”.
