Industry Odisha Bureau, Jun 16: A fresh study reportedly made by the 15th Edition of the Reuters Institute’s Digital News Report (RIDNR) in collaboration with Chennai-based Asian College of Journalism based on an online survey of nearly one lakh people across 48 markets globally, more and more people have reportedly been found preferring and reposing their trust in accessing new sources from the social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram,
X, and video platforms like YouTube and Tik Tok instead of the traditionally mainstream print or electronic media.
The study has also found out that, “even people are reportedly shying away from the websites and apps owned by the traditional news organisations alleging trust deficit and bias.”
The study has also reportedly found that “use of social media and video platforms is on a rising trend and more evident among the younger generations. Even the older generations have also interestingly got induced by the younger generations and switching over to the social media and video platforms for accessing news.”
However, allegations galore that the certain reckless and anti-social elements are also reportedly spreading rumours and misinformation taking undue advantage of the growing trend in audienceship of social media and video platforms which is detrimental to the pious spirit and virtues of universal brotherhood, co-existence, tolerance, peace and harmony in the society worldwide.
As per the RIDNR findings, it has also been reported that, “there has also been a rise in the use of artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots for accessing news since 10% of the one lakh global respondents surveyed admitted to using this means and the audiences belong to the below 35 years of age, while 77% of the one lakh surveyed respondents are inclined to online news videos every week.”
The RIDNR findings have also reportedly discovered that, “content creators are also playing a pivotal role in the news ecosystem now as 27% of the one lakh global respondents admitted to accessing news through them owing to easy accessibility, while least bothered about the veracity and credibility of the news contents.Despite that, certain established news content creators are trustworthy and proven to be credible.”
