Industry Odisha Bureau, Jul 2: The signing of Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the European Union (EU) and India has reportedly been targeted by December 2026, because the EU leaders reportedly deem India as one of their most important strategic partners owing to the changing geopolitical dynamics.
As per international media reports, “Ireland terms India as one of EU’s top strategic partners while formally beginning the six-month presidency of the Council of the European Union.”
Reports said that, “The ambitious India-EU FTA is expected to be formally inked by the end of December 2026 during Ireland’s presidency. While the negotiations for the important purpose have already concluded in January 2026, India and EU are also expanding cooperation beyond trade into technology, defense, research, climate action, connectivity, resilient supply chains and maritime security against the backdrop of Trump regime’s foreign policy.”
Quoting EU Ambassador Herve Delphin, the international media reported that, “Europe has been affected by both China and USA. Its future depends on working with trusted partners and India is unquestionably one among them.”
Citing the glaring instance of the Hormuz hurdle where global shipping got severely disrupted as well as freedom of navigation went kaput, the EU ambassador reportedly “pointed finger at China for such a crisis in the South China” and apprehended that “it may happen again somewhere else, hence, EU and India ought to deeply reflect on such implications.”
