Industry Odisha Bureau, March 30: Cyber fraudsters have cheated Rs 972 crore from 80,000 people of Odisha in between June 2024 and December 2025, as per official data.
More than 80,000 cyber fraud complaints involving cheating of Rs 972.60 crore were reported in Odisha durin the period.
As per the data, 4,238 cyber cases involving cheating of Rs 260.61 crore reported in different police stations of the State. The police have arrested 868 persons for their alleged involvement in the cyber fraud cases, he said, adding, Rs 61.36 lakh was recovered and Rs 8.89 crore frozen in these cases.
Apart from the above, access to the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP) has been provided to the victims to file complaints regarding cybercrimes. A total of 76,794 complaints involving Rs 711.99 crore were lodged in the NCRP during the 19 months.
Out of the cyber fraud cases reported in the NCRP portal, an amount of Rs 7.79 crore was successfully returned to the victims, while a substantial sum of Rs 101.24 crore was promptly put on hold in suspect bank accounts through coordinated action with financial institutions and payment intermediaries.
As per Nyaya Sanhita the FIRs are registered by filing grievances at PSs. Apart from this, the FIRs are being registered through e-FIRs & Zero FIRs and also Suo-moto by Police personnel, at any PS of the State.
Cyber financial fraud involving amount of Rs 2 lakhs and above except Cyber Crime & Economic Offence (CC & EO) Police stations of Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Rourkela, which will take up cases involving fraud of Rs 5 Lakhs and above.
Cyber financial fraud involving amount of Rs 25 lakhs and above will be investigated by CID-CB Cyber Crime Police Station, as per guidelines.
Similarly, financial fraud involving amount of Rs 1 crore and above is being investigated by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Odisha police.
The guidelines are issued from time to time for administrative convenience and to avoid confusion or any kind of ambiguities.
