Industry Odisha Bureau, July 9: A Jaipur based man has gone viral on Linkedin after rejecting a job offer worth over Rs 55 LPA in Japan. Interestingly, he chose to continue working remotely from his hometown instead.
Senior software engineer Yashaswi Soni said that he prioritised family, work life balance and stability over a higher salary.
In his LinkedIn post, Soni shared that he started looking for opportunities after his previous employer asked him to relocate to Pune, a move he did not want to make. He made it very clear that he wanted a fully remote role, a healthy work culture, and better work life balance.
During his job search, Soni received multiple offers. This included a remote role with a London based startup offering Rs 37 LPA, a Dubai based position worth Rs 47 LPA, a Japan based role paying over Rs 55 LPA, and a remote offer from EPAM Anywhere worth Rs 29 LPA.
Although the Japan offer offered the highest salary, Soni said that he asked himself what truly mattered. He explained that his wife had recently settled into her job in Jaipur. The couple had built a comfortable life with their own home and family nearby.
He said that moving to Japan would have meant leaving behind his current life entirely. He also felt that, despite its tax free salary, Dubai did not match the lifestyle they wanted.
Eventually, Soni joined his current employer in a fully remote role after receiving selection confirmation. Looking back, the man said that he has no regrets after rejecting the 55 LPA offer, and others. He wrote that while money is important, it is only one part of the equation. Factors such as the city you live in, the people around you and the pace of life are equally important.
His post garnered huge traction from netizens. Many of them praised his decision to prioritise flexibility, family, and long term happiness over a bigger pay cheque.
