Industry Odisha Bureau, Jun 27: While the reportedly concerted efforts aimed at evacuating hundreds of vessels and stranded seafarers from Iran-controlled Strait of Hormuz were temporarily paused following an attack on a ship reportedly last week, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) of the United Nations Organization (UNO) is reportedly coordinating with nations to restart the evacuation drive once again.
Reportedly sharing the important information through a virtual news conference, UN’s IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez said, “Before the evacuation process was temporarily paused after a container ship operated by Taiwan’s Evergreen was attacked, about 115 vessels and around 2,500 seafarers were able to sail through the Strait of Hormuz.”
The IMO Secretary-General also reportedly said, “Vigilantly efforts are on, conversations are being made with the countries, especially with the USA, Iran and Oman, to ensure that the vessels won’t be targeted.”
He also reportedly added, “Soon after the assurances are made, the temporarily-stalled evacuation process will resume, but the timeframe for the resumption can’t be provided. Evacuations will take weeks to complete.”
