Industry Odisha Bureau, Jun 24: In the wake of the US-Iran peace deal inked and even amid the cloud of uncertainty hovering over the lifting of Hormuz hurdle, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) yesterday reported that eleven (11) Indian cargo vessels carrying crude oil, LPG and fertilizers have safely crossed the Strait of Hormuz soon after the peace deal was signed between US and Iran.
Sharing the significant information yesterday in a press briefing, MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal reportedly said: “We have 10 Indian-flagged vessels still in the Persian Gulf region. In addition, two Indian ships have crossed from this side into the Persian Gulf. Since the signing of the MoU on June 17, eleven India-bound vessels have crossed the Strait of Hormuz.”
The MEA spokesperson also reportedly said: “The vessels include three India-flagged crude oil tankers, each carrying 2,85,000 metric tonnes of crude oil, one foreign-flag LPG carrier; one foreign-flag crude oil tanker; and six foreign-flag bulk carriers carrying fertilizer, and it is our expectation and hope that the remaining Indian-flag vessels, of which the number I just gave you, would also be able to cross the order soon,”
Notably, the Strait of Hormuz reportedly reopened last week soon after the US-Iran peace deal was formally signed, and even the naval blockade imposed by the USA was also lifted. But Iran announced on June 20 last week that it closed yet again the globally critical chokepoint of Hormuz protesting against Israeli attacks on Lebanon.
