Industry Odisha Bureau, Jun 12: Since the Australian women’s cricket team has been registering dominance over the years in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, all are agog to witness if the same team still dominates the scene in the final on July 5 this year as the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 is all set to start from today at 11 pm (local time) in England and Wales.
Cricket experts opine that, “Despite being still strong, the aura of Australian team has begun to fade following others emerging as spectacular performers and genuine title contenders. Australia still remains among the favourites at the Women’s T20 World Cup beginning in Birmingham, but the current squad does not carry the same sense of inevitability as Meg Lanning’s legendary side. Nevertheless, the team continues to possess immense talent, with players such as Georgia Voll, Annabel Sutherland and Phoebe Litchfield representing the next generation.”
Cricket experts also argue that, “This year’s edition could be the most competitive one in the tournament’s history since New Zealand is the defending champion, India has registered victory at home in the ODI World Cup in 2025, South Africa has already reached the last three ICC global tournaments even though sans its first title, while England could leave no stone unturned to reclaim the title on home soil since it has already done it in the 2009 inaugural edition.”
Notably, the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 is reportedly “featuring 12 teams across 33 matches, with final at Lord’s in London”.
The 12 teams are: Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, Ireland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, Scotland, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies.
