Industry Odisha Bureau, Jul 29: India’s industrial output reportedly grew 7.3% in June this year, that is reportedly claimed to be a six-month high.
Media reports citing the provisional data released yesterday (July 28) by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) stated that, “India’s industrial output, measured by the Index of Industrial Production (IIP), grew 7.3% year-on-year (YoY) in June, a six-month high, led by a robust expansion in manufacturing, electricity and gas supply sectors and supported by moderate growth in water supply and mining sectors and a favourable base effect.”
Media reports added that, “The industrial output estimates indicated a gradual strengthening in industrial activity as this year’s June growth was recorded higher than the 1.5% growth recorded in June 2025. The IIP stood at 123.1 in June this year compared with 114.7 in June 2025 reflecting an overall improvement in industrial output levels.”
Media reports further added that, “Manufacturing, which accounts for the largest share (76.06%) in the IIP, grew 7.8% year-on-year (YoY) in June, accelerating from 5.2% in May this year that is significantly higher than 2.4% in June 2025.”
Notably, “The current base year for India’s Index of Industrial Production (IIP) is 2022‑23 that has replaced the earlier base year of 2011‑12, while the new series is being released by the MoSPI from June 2026. The first IIP was prepared with base year 1937, while it was subsequently revised to 1946, 1951, 1956, 1960, 1970, 1980-81, 1993-94, 2004-05 and 2011-12.”
