Industry Odisha Bureau, May 27: Odisha is going to host another prestigious international sporting event, the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships 2027.
The decision was taken at the Asian Athletics Council in Hongkong today. Apart from Odisha, Chandigarh will host the Asian Relays 2028, officials said.
Receiving the news of Odisha being awarded this prestigious continental event, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has congratulated Indian Athletics.
Expressing his happiness, the CM has said that it’s a very proud moment for India and Odisha. With this award, Odisha has strengthened its position as a host for global sporting events, he added. It’s another cap in Odisha’s crown in the realm of global sports, the Chief Minister said.
“Odisha’s world-class infrastructure and exceptional ability to successfully host major international competitions have today positioned us as a major hub in the world of sports. At the Asian Athletics Council meeting held in Hong Kong, Odisha has been given the responsibility of hosting the ‘Asian Indoor Athletics Championships 2027’.
This is a moment of great pride and honor for the entire country and the people of Odisha, Majhi wrote on X.
Hosting this Asian competition ahead of the ‘World Athletics Indoor Championships 2028’ to be held at the Kalinga Stadium has added another golden chapter to our sporting success, the CM said.
“This glorious success in the field of sports will further strengthen our identity and pride and will give a new identity to our young sports talents on the global stage,” he added.
It may be mentioned here Odisha has already been awarded World Athletics Indoor Championships 2028, which will be hosted at world-class Kalinga Stadium.
