Industry Odisha Bureau, May 13: Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to reduce use of petrol/diesel, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has reduced the size of cavalcade to half the number of vehicles.
In the context of the oil crisis that has arisen all over the world due to the conflict in West Asia, Prime Minister Modi has urged the people of the country to reduce their expenditure, especially petrol and diesel consumption.
Chief Minister Majhi has welcomed the call given by the Prime Minister and has reduced the number of vehicles plying by half for his own personal safety.
In addition, emphasizing this call of the Prime Minister, the CM has appealed to the people of the State to reduce the number of personal vehicles and use public transport more.
The Chief Minister has advised to stop unnecessary use of vehicles by using them only where necessary.
Along with this, he has also advised the people not to buy gold and avoid unnecessary foreign trips.
Meanwhile, State Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena urged citizens to reduce fuel consumption and adopt electric vehicles (EVs) in response to the appeal of the PM.
Speaking before the media here, Jena appealed to people to adopt eco-friendly travel habits and minimise unnecessary dependence on conventional fuel-powered vehicles.
He said PM Modi had encouraged the public to increase the use of EVs, avoid unnecessary travel and reduce the use of vehicles for single-person commuting.
Highlighting the Centre’s efforts to promote electric mobility, Jena said that subsidies for electric vehicles have been extended till 2028 to encourage wider adoption of clean transportation systems. Jena urged citizens to actively support the transition towards sustainable and environmentally friendly mobility solutions.
The Minister also appealed to people to make greater use of public transport services such as the ‘Ama Bus’ instead of relying on private vehicles for short-distance or individual travel.
In addition, he advised people to adopt carpooling and scooty pooling practices to reduce fuel consumption, traffic congestion and environmental pollution.
Reinforcing the Prime Minister’s message through personal commitment, the minister said he himself would commute using government bus services.
