Industry Odisha Bureau, April 24: In view of the prevailing heat wave situation in Odisha, the state government on Friday announced summer vacation for schools from Monday.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced summer vacation for schools in view of the severe heat wave prevailing in the state, a statement said.
The chief minister has taken this decision keeping in mind the safety of the children. Majhi approved the proposal in this regard moved by the School and Mass Education Department, the statement said.
As per the decision, all government, government-aided and private schools in the state will remain closed from April 27.
However, the pre-scheduled examinations, Census work and other office work will continue as usual, it said.
According to IMD, as many 24 places across Odisha have recorded a day temperature of 40 degrees Celsius or above on Thursday. Two of these places– Jharsuguda and Talcher—registered a maximum day temperature of 44 degrees Celsius.
The IMD said heatwave and hot weather conditions expected to prevail in Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bolangir, Keonjhar, Angul, Khordha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts on Friday. Besides, the night would be warm in Bolangir ,Sambalpur, Kandhamal districts.
