Industry Odisha Bureau, Sept 16: Odisha is likely to experience continued rain over the next week. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued district wise warnings until September 22. A cyclonic circulation over the north west Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas is influencing weather conditions across the state.
Rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is expected in several districts of Odisha on Wednesday and Thursday. A yellow warning has been issued for 20 districts during this period.
The IMD has issued a yellow warning for 17 districts on September 18. Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur and Balasore are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Rainfall activity is expected to continue on September 19. 30 districts will be under a yellow warning for rain, thunderstorms and lightning. Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati and Ganjam may experience heavier showers.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely in Kalahandi, Rayagada, Ganjam and Gajapati on September 21 and 22.
Notably, Odisha recorded 1,269,7 mm of rainfall between June 1 and September 15. This lies 21 percent above the normal level for the period. However, Gajapati and Nabarangapur have reported rainfall deficits.
The IMD’s warnings indicate that wet conditions are likely to persist across several parts of Odisha over the coming days.
