Industry Odisha Bureau, Aug 28: Odisha’s Department of Agriculture and Farmers Empowerment signed six key partnership agreements. The collaborations aim to strengthen agricultural development and rural economic opportunities statewide. Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, the Agriculture Minister, oversaw the formal ceremony.
ICRISAT has committed to four distinct projects strengthening seed systems and breeding. The projects focus specifically on pulses and oilseeds for crop diversification. These technologies can accelerate agricultural research and improve availability of improved seed varieties.
The M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation will work in Nayagarh district with farmers. MSSRF targets food security, nutrition security and livelihood security for rural communities. The Farming System for Nutrition model connects agricultural production with household nutrition needs.
The Department of Posts partnership expands digital agricultural services through postal networks. Farmers can access AgriStack registration, CM KISAN and PM KISAN e-KYC. Digital identity-linking and payment system seeding improve access to government agricultural programmes.
State leadership emphasizes accelerating non-paddy crop production and diversifying farm output statewide. These agreements seek to reduce crop concentration and strengthen farm resilience across communities. Better seeds and diversified crops could support improved productivity and livelihood options.
Digital postal infrastructure may help more farmers access government services and registrations. However, whether technology and improved seeds translate to higher incomes depends ultimately on effective implementation and farmer adoption.
