Industry Odisha Bureau, Aug 27: The Odisha government has extended six rural and connectivity schemes under the Mukhya Mantri Sadak Yojana (MMSY). They have committed to a combined outlay of Rs 29.627.55 crore over the next four to five years. The programmes aim to improve connectivity in remote, tribal, hilly and underserved areas, while upgrading existing rural roads and bridging missing links.
The Setu Bandhan Yojana (SBY) will receive the largest allocation of Rs 11,800 crore between 2026-27 and 2030-31. It will focus on constructing bridges over rivers, streams and waterways to provide all-weather connectivity and reduce monsoon related issues.
The MMSY-Improvement of existing RD roads has been extended until 2029-30 with Rs 5,615 crore for widening and strengthening roads. This comes particularly amid rising traffic from industrial, mining and trading activities.
Another Rs 5,365 crore has been allocated to the MMSY Transferred Roads Improvement Programme (MMSY-TRIP). This will continue until 2029-30 and upgrade Panchayati Raj roads transferred to the Rural Development department.
The flagship MMSY has received Rs 4,000 crore for 2026-27 to 2030-31 to provide all-weather connectivity to habitations not covered under PMGSY.
The Connectivity of Unconnected Villages in Difficult Areas (CUVDA) scheme of Rs 1,300 crore is expected to add around 1,150 km of new roads.
Meanwhile, MMSY-Connecting Missing Link Roads has been extended until 2029-30 with Rs 1,547.55 crore, targeting LWE-affected, hilly and inaccessible areas.
