Industry Odisha Bureau, Aug 14: Since the rise in imports reportedly surpassed the exports, India’s merchandise trade deficit reportedly expanded to $31.98 billion in July this year in comparison to $27.88 billion last year.
Media reports, citing provisional data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI), have stated that, “Imports rose 17.5% to $76.22 billion, while exports increased 19.6% to $44.24 billion. The first four months of the current fiscal 2026-27, i.e. from April to July 2026, merchandise exports rose 17.04% to $173.78 billion from $148.48 billion a year ago, while imports increased 19.27% to $292.38 billion from $245.14 billion.”
Media reports, citing provisional data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI), have further stated that, “While India’s total exports in July 2026, including services, were estimated at $80.14 billion, up 13.3% from $70.72 billion a year earlier (2025), total imports rose 15.8% to $95.16 billion, taking the overall trade deficit to $15.03 billion from $11.43 billion.”
