Industry Odisha Bureau, Aug 10: Since the Government of India (GoI) has reportedly accelerated its move for infrastructure development along the sensitive frontiers, it is being reported that the GoI is planning to build over 5,000 km long border highways in a bid to speed up military troops’ mobilisation as well as open some of the country’s remote pockets to trade, tourism and investment facilities.
Media reports, citing sources, claimed that, “The GoI has planned to invest more than Rs 2 trillion in this significant project over the next five years, while it is expected to lay stress on the strategic stretches along India’s sensitive borders with neighbouring China, Pakistan, Myanmar, Bhutan and Nepal.”
The Media reports, citing sources, also claimed that, “Such a significant development would also pave path for improving access to healthcare, education and markets for the communities residing in the remote districts and pockets of the border regions.”
Media reports, citing the data available from the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), further claimed that, “While the projects of 3,318-km-long national highways (NHs) meant for improving border connectivity have already been awarded over the past five years of fiscal year 2021-22 (FY22) and fiscal year 2025-26 (FY26), 1,301-km-long NH stretches have already been constructed.”
